Academic higher education in Latvia follows the Bologna system and is divided
into three levels: Bachelor’s studies, Master’s studies, and Doctoral studies. A
Bachelor degree takes three or four years, while a Master’s degree will take one
or two years.
Only graduates holding a Master’s degree or equivalent higher education diploma
may take up doctoral studies. These last three to four years, involving advanced
studies, examinations and the preparation and defence of a doctoral thesis.

According to the European Employment services, the country has a fairly lower
standard of living as compared to other European Countries. Therefore, students
from abroad can spend more on their everyday needs.
Accommodation:- Below are the details on accommodation if been
chosen in the campus or off campus.

Food:- Tentative cost for food for each student would be approx.
EUR120-EUR250 (Meals at the city centre: EUR 5- EUR 9)
Transportation:- It is advisable to go by train instead of bus from Riga
to the following towns: Jurmala, Tukums, Jelgava, Salaspils, Jekabpils,
Daugavpils, Rezekne, Sigulda, Cesis and Saulkrasti. If you are going to other
cities, there are most likely only a couple of trains per day or there are no
trains going at all. Trains are usually cheaper and you don't need to worry
about having no seat. Trains are usually crowded on peak days of summer. There
is also a vast network of bus connections around Latvia.
Taxi (from the city centre to suburbs): EUR 5- EUR 15 (1 transfer)
Public transport tickets for students: EUR16/per month (trams, trolleybuses,
buses)
Public transport one-way ticket: EUR 1.50
Average monthly living expenses in Latvia are estimated to be between EUR 400 -
EUR 750. These amounts should be enough to cover food, accommodation, utilities,
transportation and other monthly expenses.

Documents Required for Study VISA in Latvia -
Visas (if needed) and residence permits for persons interested in studying in
Latvia are acquired as part of the application and enrolment process. Based on a
positive assessment of the applicant’s education documents provided by the
Academic Information Centre, and a successful enrolment application, the
university contacts the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (OCMA) to
apply for a 3-month entry visa for citizens of countries who require a visa.

Part time work is allowed in Latvia. The students may work for 20 hours per
week in Latvia. One may also work for 40 hours per week during vacations and
